A Crack in the Matrix: A Black single mother sees FIRE
Hey! I’m Sharon, and I’m so excited to be creating my first YouTube video. I’ve always wanted to have a channel, but more than that, I’m excited about what I’m going to share here—because this is the story of how I’m leaving the rat race, deconstructing the programs that were handed to me, and writing a different script for what it means to be a Black American single mother. This channel is called Fire & Peace . I’m 36 years old, a single mom to a 6-year-old daughter, and this channel is a space for Black mothers who are tired of just surviving—who are ready to imagine a much freer life. Here, I talk about the FIRE movement— Financial Independence, Retire Early . But I also talk about putting our personal joy and inner peace at the top of the list, and removing people-pleasing from the list entirely. We do not center our lives around work.
